I was hoping for an upgrade, but got stuck in a cramped room with thin walls-you can practically hear the neighbors breathe. Not to mention the unnecessary noise from the corridor! A bit of complimentary chocolate Woudl ve been nice. I almost thought about giving it a good review, but just couldn't, just couldn't.

Not having a noticeable entry is a bit odd!!! The rates are frustratingly high for low season visitors!!! The thin walls could be a nightmare for light sleepers!!!

this location was stunning, short walk to main attractions, metro, parks, el corte ingles, several metro stations nearby and metro, several. there were an electric kettle, climate control, and a personal safe in my double room, appreciated it.

The room had ample afternoon sunshine.
Thin walls meant the noise from adjacent rooms could be bothersome, particularly in the morning with conversations echoing by the reception area. Though not a major issue, it detracted slightly from the overall comfort level .

The unit was good sized and newly decorated.
The location was EXCELLENT in the centre, right by a huge plaza.

- Kindness of the personel ; - The ratio quality versus price ; - The vintage elevator ; - The location.
- Hostel staff did not speak english, leading to funny spanish discussion when you only know a few words "Esta possible pagar?"... But this is really not critical.

The double room at Hostal Santillan was cozy and comfortable. Enjoyed the sunlight pouring in throughout the day. The strong Wi-Fi signal made it easy to connect. The room felt a bit humid and sometimes a tad cold. I could hear some noise from the adjacent room, but it wasn't overwhelming. The friendly and helpful staff made a positive impression, and the location was fantastic, just a short walk from the metro and main attractions. They weren't the best since the reception is on the 8th floor. A pleasant stay with a few minor issues.

This Hostal is in a very convenient position, and it is walking distance to the most interesting places. Staff is very helpful, good service, and very clean. We liked it. Silvio Calleja.

Both lovable and frustrating
An excellent spot, just minutes from the metro, with clean rooms and friendly staff who went the extra mile, even offering to store luggage before check-in!

It is a good hotel for the value of the money you pay. It is a budget-oriented hotel so do not expect any luxury features. It has a perfect location, most of main point of interest can be reached by foot. Staff is very friendly but everyone at the reception desk would know English it will be easier. Room was very clean all the time.

The Hotel Santillan has a perfect location. You are literally 1/2 a block from the Metro station and smack dab in the middle of the theater district. It is right around the corner from several good restaurants and cafes. We were so pleasantly surprised by the location. I didn't expect such a location for the inexpensive price that we paid.
The only thing I did not like is that the walls or thin and we were next to a noisy man who stayed up late.

So we also will choose it for sure for next trip, but we didn't have time. Convenient hotel & clean, its location is marvellous and stunning to everything we wanted to see in Madrid. A special thanks to courteous staff. The bar is great.

Great central location via the Gran Via, free wifi, very friendly and helpful staff. We got scammed by a cab driver at the airport, and the owner was very helpful and helped us find/book an official cab from the hostal to the airport at the right price. You can take the bus/metro to and from the airport but we had to take the taxi because I was with 2 seniors (64 and 69 y/o), we had tons of luggage and our flights were scheduled at odd times. Note also that there is no main lobby and their office is at the 8th floor but they have a small lift which can take you there.
The staff didn't speak much English (but hey we managed :p) and there is no main lobby (go to the 8th floor via the lift to check in)
